Daylight came sunless. The dew of my essence,
the cream of my being—
it leaked like salt from a shaker,
coarse, grinding through me
until my tear-ducts tore
In silk and down I wrapped myself,
wings pinned—returning from flight to cocoon.
I was invisible,
I was unsightly.
Beyond your gaze, I waited
to be reborn.
I became massive—
inflated
I engulfed creation;
my edges fled their frame.
I was luminous,
I was manifest.
My reflection shone and burned like a star
Then In your eyes I was reborn
Hollow and bound within myself
Only one thing to do
Two rolls where the material
Two wraps to ensure the seal.
One window, cracked two inches
But true sleep doesn’t come for cowards—
only the cocoon to return to.
And when the sun arrived,
I could no longer see it.
